The Pollen Park website has been created to provide both education and entertainment for children aged between 7 and 11 years old (classes 5 and 6).

In Pollen Park, learning is fun with Bumbles the playful honey bee, here children can join in with the pollen-collecting mission by completing activities and making amazing discoveries about PLANT REPRODUCTION.

The development of Pollen Park has been based upon the learning guidelines set out in Key Stage 2 of the National Curriculum which is the framework given to teachers by Government. The National Curriculum sets out the most important information and skills for a child to learn at school and provides standards that measure how well children are doing in each subject. Pollen Park has been specifically designed to provide support for unit 5B of the National Curriculum, titled; Lifecycles.

The site endeavors to encourage the understanding of:

1. The names of the different parts of the flower and understand the function of each in the reproduction process.
2. The process of pollination and the varied methods of pollen transfer.
3. The process of fertilization and how this differs from pollination
4. The different methods of seed dispersal and why this needs to occur.
5. The process of seed germination and the necessary conditions for it to occur.

This application has been developed in cooperation with Jackie Oakes and her Year 6 Class at The Marsh County Primary School, and under the direction of Dr. Mellissa Lee Price.
